- In which areas do you expect PostgreSQL to grow most and how does your company contribute to and benefit from that growth?
- Data and AI are increasingly married together to build the new data infrastructure for the next ten to 15 years. We know that 35% of all enterprises are considering PostgreSQL for their next major workloads, and we believe there's a remarkable future ahead for PostgreSQL as the leading open source database on the planet. We’re already seeing PostgreSQL grow beyond transactional workloads to support the analytical and AI workloads of the future.
- EDB has been committed to this technology for more than two decades, proudly standing as one of its leading contributors, working hand-in-hand with a vibrant, independent community to drive continuous innovation. While we continue to evolve PostgreSQL as a sovereign data platform built to support analytics, AI, and intelligent applications, we know that innovation only endures if the foundation remains strong. This is why we continue to invest not just in the core code but in the broader ecosystem, the global community, and the enterprise-grade infrastructure needed to keep PostgreSQL future-ready.
- What is your PostgreSQL centered product and what makes it unique?
- Twenty years ago, EDB was founded on the belief that PostgreSQL would become the database of choice for the modern enterprise. What has made EDB unique from the start is our innovative portfolio of products and services that help customers use Postgres for the workloads of the future, including Oracle Compatibility, support for Postgres on every possible platform, including on prem for Windows, nearly every Linux variant, Kubernetes, and the cloud. We also have a rich set of tools for High Availability, database migrations, backups, and database applications that use Postgres for analytics and AI.
- Today, EDB Postgres AI represents the next chapter in this journey of more than two decades of innovation, community contributions, and enterprise-grade enhancements. A Postgres data and AI platform, it delivers the agility of cloud with sovereign control, helping to elevate data infrastructure to a strategic technology asset by bringing analytical and AI systems closer to customers’ core operational and transactional data—all managed through the world’s most popular open source database: Postgres.
- What is your company's mission?
- Our mission is to deliver a sovereign Postgres data and AI management platform that enables the data-driven, AI-infused, intelligent systems of our customers. The enterprise of the future is already investing in AI, open-source platforming, and data as a competitive advantage. EDB’s mission is built on the vision of an AI revolution driving a new wave of intelligent systems that seamlessly integrate into our daily lives, enabling a positive impact on the global economy and society.
- How do you foster diversity in your company?
- We recognize and respect everyone as a unique individual, taking pride in nurturing a diverse workplace where each employee is expected to treat others with dignity, courtesy and respect. We treat code commits the same regardless of who wrote them and suggestions that come from personal experience, background and culture are celebrated. Our teams are diverse because we know our users are as well. We hope each unique personality shines through our product.
- What makes your company a great place to work?
- EDB empowers employees to shape the future of technology through 20 years of leadership in PostgreSQL—the world’s fastest-growing open-source database. This purpose-driven culture of global belonging, innovation, and well-being mirrors PostgreSQL itself: adaptable, resilient, and built for the future. With a remote-first model, industry-leading AI tools boosting efficiency by 20%, and tailored support for personal growth, our employees thrive. Transparent communication, personalized onboarding, and mental health resources result in industry-best workplace satisfaction scores—proof that our team is inspired to make a real-world impact.
- Our work doesn’t stop with software. Our team is proud to contribute to the PostgreSQL community, and we also recognize the role we play in a larger global community. We center our purpose around three core pillars: PostgreSQL, AI, and the environment. This is why we support organizations like the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and the MERMAID project, a nonprofit initiative of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
- How do you foster diversity in your company?
- At EDB, we believe that great ideas can come from anywhere and anyone. We embrace the fact that diversity has tangible benefits to organizations, particularly in technology settings.
- The diversity within our company reflects the rich diversity of the PostgreSQL community. We encourage lasting, collaborative innovation focused on adding value. Our team, including our executive leadership team, represents a spectrum of perspectives, backgrounds and experiences. Regardless of our differences, we are grounded in the shared mission of enabling enterprises to thrive with the full power of PostgreSQL.
- Which of your company's contributions to the PostgreSQL Project (code/community/conference) are you most proud of?
- EDB is proud of our longstanding history of significant contributions to PostgreSQL code, working alongside the vibrant independent open source community.
- Along with many other enhancements, with the release of Postgres 17, EDB contributed the new Incremental backup feature, which makes it possible to use PostgreSQL for larger mission-critical applications with demanding DR requirements. We also contributed a redesign of the Postgres SLRU cache, which will significantly help applications that use large numbers of subtransactions.
- Some of the more significant contributions EDB employees have made to PostgreSQL over the past 20 years include HOT (Heap Only Tuples), Parallel Query, Declarative Table Partitioning, Stored Procedures, Logical Replication, and the Merge command.
- Along with contributing to the core database server, we lead the maintenance and feature development of several open source community projects that add significant value to the PostgreSQL ecosystem. These include Cloud Native Postgres, PgAdmin, and Barman.
- As the #1 contributor to Postgres over the last 20 years, EDB is proud to be building and improving the world’s most popular open source database.
- What makes you want to attend the PGConf.DE conference?
- EDB is proud to be an active member of the vibrant open source community, and we attend PostgreSQL conferences and events around the world to connect with Postgres experts and enthusiasts. As one of the leading contributors to the PostgreSQL community, we think it's vital to learn, share, ideate, and listen to the expertise of the open source community, explore how they’re building PostgreSQL for the workloads of the future, and understand what EDB can do to help.
- Our participation in these conferences underscores our commitment to driving innovation in Postgres and supporting its growth. These events offer a platform for collaboration, where we gain valuable knowledge from others in the field and contribute our own expertise as well. EDB believes this continuous exchange of ideas is essential for the continued success of open source Postgres, and we are fully committed to that cause.
