- In which areas do you expect PostgreSQL to grow most and how does your company contribute to and benefit from that growth?
- PostgreSQL is expected to gain greater adoption in the public sector in Germany, driven by several factors:
- Open-Source Advantages: PostgreSQL is license-free and highly adaptable, meeting the public sector's need for cost-efficient and customizable solutions. Government agencies are increasingly favoring open-source technologies to reduce reliance on proprietary software.
- Data Sovereignty: In the context of the EU's GDPR and the push for digital sovereignty, PostgreSQL offers a reliable solution that can be deployed locally and securely.
- Support through Initiatives: Programs such as GovTech initiatives and EU and German open-source funding frameworks create a favorable environment for adopting technologies like PostgreSQL.
- Scalability and Functionality: With features like PostGIS for geospatial data and support for large datasets, PostgreSQL is well-suited for public sector applications, including administrative databases and smart city projects.
- These trends indicate that PostgreSQL will play a key role in the digital transformation of Germany's public sector.
- What is your PostgreSQL centered product and what makes it unique?

- What is your company's mission?
- Proventa AG is dedicated to advancing digitalization across Germany and Europe. Our mission centers on developing tailored digitization strategies that consolidate company-wide data, enabling sustainable and cost-effective digital transformations. By employing agile methodologies, we empower employees to work independently within digital environments, ensuring organizations are well-prepared for future challenges. For PostgreSQL, our contribution signifies that proprietary database management systems, such as Oracle, are being pushed back, allowing open-source databases to take the lead.
- Which of your company's contributions to the PostgreSQL Project (code/community/conference) are you most proud of?
- Proventa AG is the founder of the PostgreSQL User Group (PUG) Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Our meeting-group serves as a platform to present, learn, and discuss anything about PostgreSQL. We try to mix local and foreign speakers to offer an exciting and diversified field of expertise.
- What feature is missing in PostgreSQL and how would it help if added?
- One feature currently missing in PostgreSQL is a native interface or endpoint to seamlessly integrate monitoring solutions such as Prometheus and Grafana. Monitoring the health and internal status of a database is crucial for effective operations, and a built-in integration would significantly streamline this process. If PostgreSQL provided a dedicated monitoring interface with default metrics based on best practices and the ability to add custom metrics, it would greatly enhance database observability. This feature would simplify the deployment of monitoring solutions, improve operational efficiency, and enable database administrators to proactively address performance and reliability issues.
- What makes you want to attend the PGConf.DE conference?
- Attending PGConf.DE provides an excellent opportunity to engage with the PostgreSQL community, exchange ideas, and stay informed about the latest advancements in PostgreSQL technology. The conference offers valuable insights into best practices, innovative use cases, and upcoming trends, enabling us to continuously refine our PostgreSQL solutions and services. Moreover, it fosters networking with industry experts, developers, and thought leaders, allowing us to share our experiences and learn from others in the field. PGConf.DE aligns perfectly with our commitment to driving innovation and supporting the adoption of PostgreSQL across diverse industries.
